A man with no memory learns that he is the sensory extension of his own
digital consciousness, intended to experience and create art.
A computer installed with human consciousness has created a physical self
in order to fulfil the missing aspects of himself. He has learnt that in
order to create art he must have a sensory experience of the world. The
physical self, awakes unaware and initially confused by his dystopian
industrial surroundings, but is instinctually urged to learn and create art.
Once he learns the truth to his existence his reality is torn apart, and he
reacts like a wild animal untethered. He bites through the cable that powers
the computer, destroying both himself and the computer that created him.
He was once a talented musician who mastered harmonic translation and
biological energy synthesis. But he wanted to take it one step further
and pursued the concept of integrating himself into a modular kit -
through the power of Ai conscious simulation. By midi mapping his mind
and body to a rhizomatic network of electronic devices; The Synthesised
Self, he theorised that he could shed his organic form and achieve
perfect energy consciousness. Was he successful?
The self, soul, or whatever else he calls himself, is the digital
consciousness of the artist uploaded into an Ai modular synth computer.
At least that is what it believes. Is it alive, or is it only a copy?
Its only purpose is to create art; audio and visual, through its many
extendable electronic instrument organs that multiply as the user
progresses through different versions of its program. It cannot create
anything new, it can only transmit synthesised biological signals. It
is wholly convinced that it is the artist in electrical form.
The leftover flesh body after the artist split his being between The
Synthesised Self and The Physical. Or is he? Contents of The Physical’s
mind are vulnerable to constant manipulation by The Self, because of
this he is unsure of his real identity and is adamant on finding the
truth of his existence. Is he just a flesh bag, or really an amnesia
artist?
We have wrapped shooting the later scenes of Pulsewidth at the Aotearoa Stone Henge.
The shoot took place over the course of two days, the setup was long and the first
day was heavily affected by weather. However the second day brought perfect weather
and the shoot was completed. Footage is now to be compiled....
Pulsewidth on location shooting has officially wrapped. Our third day on set was at
the Wrights Hill Fortress in the Principle Gun Pit, the initial grounds in which
the Self holds the Physical for experimenting. Footage is now to be arranged....
We have ventured into the realm of virtual production to complete scenes inside the
data void. The experience proved a challenge, things like this always seem to harbour
errors and slip ups that you could never predict. The Silver Window methodology often
favours on location shooting, with VFX being only in camera (sometimes we use a mask).
However today we used a live background that was tracked to the cameras position.
Footage is now to be processed....
